How a new HR consulting firm built its commercial foundation from the ground up

A first-time founder worked with Blank Slate Consulting to define who to target, how to position the firm, how opportunities should move, and what commercial structure was needed to grow.

The firm helps organizations build HR management aligned with their business goals, from culture and leadership development to labor compliance and team training. Its founder, a former HR director with experience across several industries, works with two collaborators. What she didn’t have yet was a way to turn that expertise into clients, through both project-based work and the recurring contracts that would keep the business stable.

The challenge

Great at the work, new to selling it

The founder knew how to deliver high-value HR consulting. But she was the one building the business, and she had never owned a sales target or built a pipeline.

Every conversation with a prospect started from scratch, and there was no shared answer to basic questions: Who is our best client? Why should they choose us? What happens after the first meeting?

The founder saw the gap clearly. Before revenue could become repeatable, the firm needed a foundation.

The approach

Build the foundation in the right order

The work began with a three-hour workshop with the founder and her two collaborators, then continued through six working sessions that moved from strategy to daily habits. Each session ended with an assignment applied directly to the business.

1

Market clarity

Defined the ideal customer profile, target segments, and the value proposition to use in every conversation.

2

Sales process design

Mapped each stage an opportunity goes through, from first contact to signed proposal, with a clear next step at each one.

3

CRM and tools

Designed how the CRM would be used day to day, with clear usage standards so every opportunity would be tracked the same way.

4

Commercial discipline

Set KPIs and a measurement cadence, and developed the founder’s consultative selling skills.

The impact

From expertise to a sales system

Before / What Blank Slate did
After / Why it matters
“Anyone who needs HR” as the target
A defined ideal customer profile and target segments
Each pitch built from scratch
One clear value proposition for every conversation
Prospects tracked informally
Clear guidelines for using the CRM every day
No clear way to measure sales progress
KPIs reviewed on a set cadence
Selling was new territory
A consultative approach that builds on HR expertise

Confidence, not just tools

The biggest change was how the founder approached selling. Consultative selling let her lead with what she already does best: diagnose a client’s people challenges and recommend a path.

“She was very professional and respectful, with strong critical thinking and deep knowledge of the subject. She was punctual and organized, and she made me feel comfortable and ready to grow. I learned and grew; I’m very grateful and satisfied.”

A relationship that continues

The founder plans to work with Blank Slate again on the next phases of her business, including the CRM and a new online store and academy.

“I don’t invest in consultants unless I feel a click and know they will move me out of my comfort zone so I can grow. Trusting your services was definitely the right decision.”

Confianza, no solo herramientas
